Sycamore Trails pool wins national
award
The $5 million pool, which opened June 1997, was 1 of 5 winners chose from
among 207,000.
The National Recreation and Park Association, a 20,000 member professional
organization is Belmont, VA., has notified the city that its pool was one of
five winners, chosen from among 207,000 pools, to receive the National
Excellence in Aquatics Award.
The $5 million pool was recognized for its outstanding aquatic facility,
programs and operations.
The new facility replaces a 60 year old community pool, now closed. The new
pool is state of the art. It has a zero depth entry, which means that all sides
just gradually increase in depth so that you can roll a wheel chair into it.
The 15,800 square foot heated pool includes shallow areas for younger
children, a U.S. Swimming approved eight lane lap pool, a diving board and two
giant water slides.
Next to the pool are two sand volleyball courts, a wet sand playground and
concession stands.
