The Historic Research and Resource Committee received sixty-four collections
this year. We extend a ‘special’ thank you to, Joe Steffen, Curator of the
Society, for his help in getting items to the Market Square Building. These
collections increased the data base to over 11,000 entries. The
collections and/or entries, to mention only a few, include: Leis family
history, Benner-Gebhart family on CD, additions to the Miamisburg High School Mirus collection, Car Dealerships,
Warner Forbes Memories, Miamisburg Fire Department Memorabilia, Old High School
desks, “Porch Light”, Life & Death of The Weber House, Kercher Street School,
Mayor Mears Memorabilia, Stettler Lutheran Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church,
St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church CDs, Zimmerman Collection, and The Plaza Theatre.
We are proud to announce that
after many years of hard work, we successfully published the 1863 – 2000 Hill
Grove Cemetery Book. It is available in the Gift Shop.
The Spring Fling was under the
control of ‘Mother Nature’ this year. We are already looking forward to better
weather conditions for next year. The Alumni Dinner Dance display was once
again a success.
The Archive Room files are
being organized and up-dated. The Research Room has over nine hundred books,
maps, video cassettes, and old newspapers on microfilm. The Gift Shop has a
bright new look. Items have been made more visible by displaying them in a
larger display case in the Market Square Building’s north gallery. Some of
these items are also available at the Gebhart Tavern.
We were able to purchase a new
tent for the Miamisburg Historical Society special events. We also have banners
to identify the Society at these events.
In June we enjoyed a tour to
the Garst Museum and A Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in Greenville, Ohio.
“Thanks a Bunch” to all
the terrific HRRC volunteers. Their “special” talents accomplished numerous
projects this year! The success of this committee is the
volunteers! The enthusiasm of the volunteers is “catching”. We invite
you to become a part of HRRC. The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of
each month at 7:00 P.M. in the Market Square Building. Everyone is welcome!
